post DIY: Convert your unused laptop to a second monitor

This is a “roll up your sleeves and hope you don’t screw it up” project, but it’s also a great way to re-purpose an unused laptop for a cheap second LCD monitor. For a non-DIY approach, you can use a software like MaxiVista to transform a second laptop without the hardware tweaking, but the Instructable will take the repurposing to the limit. On the other hand, if you’re just looking to share a mouse and keyboard, check out previously mentioned Synergy.

VideoJug put together a nice tutorial that debunks five common car maintenance myths. While the rule of thumb should always be read the frackin’ manual first, you can snag a couple of quality car care tips from the video that can save you money. On the other hand, if you’re not an auto expert and you don’t feel like becoming one, it might be best to find an honest mechanic.

Digital Experience is a bi-annual press event wherein dozens of your favorite tech companies corral hundreds of your favorite tech journalists, fill them up with free food and booze, and attempt to squeeze a little more coverage out of already-announced products. The theme for this year’s New York show — held last night at the Metropolitan Pavilion — was British Invasion, and while we certainly appreciated the Beatles cover band, darts competitions, and of course the Bass- and Boddingtons-serving HP Notebook Pub (pictured above, although we still prefer the Sun beer server), the choice to offer traditional English cuisine was, quite frankly, not that well thought out. Nonetheless, we braved numerous flying darts and sketchy-looking meat pies to photograph a few devices we thought you’d enjoy; click on to check out the highlights…
